Offering carpentry, CNC machine operation, metal fabrication

Lexington’s Minuteman Technical Institute (MTI) is accepting applications from students for Adult Workforce Development programs that begin in January for Metal Fabrication and Assembly, Machine Operation programs CNC, carpentry pre-apprenticeship and plumbing code.

Additionally, MTI will accept applications starting in January for 10-month programs starting in August 2022 for the 2022-23 school year. MTI will run 10-month programs in Automotive Technology, Cosmetology, and Electrical. For more information visit

.MTI offers technical training programs for adults looking for rewarding jobs in high demand careers. Classes are held weekday evenings at the Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical High School.

January programs

MTI’s January programs are free to qualified applicants under Governor Charlie Baker’s Technical Career Initiative. Students who complete the programs will receive industry-recognized credentials and hours to obtain licensure in their respective fields. The programs are organized in collaboration with Commonwealth Society, MassHire Career Centers and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. Prospective students must meet the eligibility criteria to access these tuition-free opportunities.


The carpentry pre-apprenticeship program takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, over 15 weeks, from January 18, 2022 to April 28, 2022. The 200-hour program provides participants with a project and tool experience with instructors with years of experience. experience in construction and carpentry. Training will take place at Minuteman’s woodworking shop, Carpenter’s training centers in Dorchester and Millbury, and other live sites in the region. The program is organized in collaboration with the North Atlantic States Regional Carpenters Council and the North Atlantic States Carpenter Training Fund.

CNC machine operation

The CNC Machine Operator Program runs three evenings per week for 15 weeks from January 18, 2022 to April 28, 2022. This 200-hour program takes place in Minuteman’s state-of-the-art manufacturing lab, where students prepare for entry. level positions as CNC machine operators, a highly demanded field with an expected growth of 7% or 29,700 jobs nationwide through 2030. Industry professionals will provide insight and information on networking and employment opportunities through speaker panels, employer roundtables and mock interviews.

Metal fabrication, assembly

The Metal Fabrication and Assembly program is scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. over 15 weeks, from January 18, 2022 to April 28, 2022. The program of 270 hours includes a program that offers practical skills in fabrication, layout and welding with theory and practice. Students are trained in flame cutting and welding, shielded arc welding and gas arc welding. Program participants will achieve OSHA 30 certification, Hot Work certification, and American Welding Society 3D 1.1 (3G / 4G SMAW Groove with Backing Structure Plate) certification.

Plumbing code

The Minuteman Technical Institute’s five plumbing code programs follow the Massachusetts State Curriculum and are designed to prepare students for the Massachusetts State Examination for the Journeyman Plumbing License. Apprentice plumbers must complete five-level educational programs in order to be eligible for the Journeyman Plumber’s License exam. Registrations are open throughout the year. 10 month programs

Enrollment opens January 3, 2022, for students to enroll in 10-month programs that begin August 2022. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have at least a high school diploma or GED / HiSet. Tuition is reduced for residents of the nine member cities of the Minuteman Regional School District: Acton, Arlington, Bolton, Concord, Dover, Lancaster, Lexington, Needham and Stow. Automotive technology

Automotive technology prepares students with a solid foundation for work in the ever-changing automotive industry. The program is designed using modules that allow students to study the general areas of ASE (Automotive Service Excellence). Each module consists of a related theory in a classroom setting and a practical application using real vehicles in the school car shop. Students gain 900 hours of experience to use for a future license, as well as OSHA, ASE, and Hot Work certifications.


The Cosmetology program supports students who aim to work in the field of cosmetology. Beginning with classroom instruction, online modules, and practice with mannequins, students move on to caring for the hair, nails and skin of their peers before working with them. Students obtain the 1,000 hours of instruction needed to pass the state licensing exam, as well as OSHA 10-Cosmetology certification, hair extension training, Barbicide certifications, and safety certifications.


The Electricity program provides students with essential theory and practical experience in residential and commercial electrical wiring techniques, industrial applications and controls with a thorough understanding of the Massachusetts Electrical Code. Students gain confidence to work as apprentice electricians during the day and improve their hands-on experience with a qualified and focused instructor in the evening. Students earn 700 teaching hours and receive OSHA 10 Construction and Hot Work certifications.
